Family Member Becomes Clitheroe Care Home Ambassador

30 September 2026 Middleshaw Hills

Middleshaw Hills care home in Clitheroe has launched a new Relative Ambassador initiative to support families considering care, with a resident’s son volunteering to share his experience of the process.

The home’s first Relative Ambassador is Darrin Robinson, whose 92-year-old mother, Jenny, moved into Middleshaw Hills in March 2026. Darrin said,

“We found ourselves under immense stress and pressure whilst mum was still living at her home in Liverpool. At 92, she was no longer able to cope despite receiving support through a care package.

“We found the process of understanding local authority support, working with social services and finding a suitable care home stressful. Mum was reluctant to leave her home because of her memory loss, so the emotional aspect of the decision was particularly difficult.

“However, with the support of the whole team at Middleshaw Hills, I’m pleased to say Mum has come through that period very successfully.

“I’ve become a Relative Ambassador because I know how daunting the process can be. I felt it could be helpful for other families to speak to somebody who has experienced those challenges and can offer an independent perspective.”

Middleshaw Hills believes that some of the most valuable advice comes from people who have walked the same path and understands the worries, questions and emotions families can experience when considering care options.

Louise Dey, General Manager at Middleshaw Hills, said, “We are very excited to have Darrin on board as our Relative Ambassador. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share real-life feedback and experience to support new families navigating the care system.

“We know that moving into care can be an emotional and sometimes overwhelming experience, so having someone with first-hand experience like Darrin available to chat openly about his family’s journey will be invaluable for others beginning that process.”

Members of the public are invited to meet Darrin and learn more about life at Middleshaw Hills during the home’s Open Day on Thursday 15 October from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

Visitors will be able to tour the home, meet the care team and enjoy live entertainment, cakes, tea and coffee, while also having the opportunity to speak with Darrin about his personal experience.
