Sherwell Manor care home in Taunton officially opened its doors with a celebration attended by residents, families, local organisations, and community leaders.
The Grand Opening event welcomed a wide range of guests including the Deputy Mayor Cllr Rob Isaacs, PCSO Will, vocalist Jay Hobday, community vendors, Twinnies Petting Farm, Blackbrook Primary School, Eclipse Elite Twirlers, TORC, and representatives from the charity Love Musgrove.
A highlight of the afternoon was the special ribbon-cutting ceremony, led jointly by the Deputy Mayor and Sherwell Manor’s very first resident, Blanche Farley, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the home and its residents.
Guests enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the afternoon, including a raffle, a “Guess the Dog” competition, the creation of a time capsule, and the unveiling of plaques recognising the founders of the home.
As part of the celebrations, funds were raised for local charity Love Musgrove, with an impressive £142 collected through community participation.
Blanche Farley, Sherwell Manor’s first resident, shared heartfelt words about the welcome received since moving into the home, “I have been amazed how lovely everyone has been and did not expect to be opening the home.”
Marie George, the General Manager at Sherwell Manor, added, “Our Grand Opening was a wonderful celebration of community. It was fantastic to welcome so many local organisations, families and supporters through our doors and to see residents at the heart of the celebrations.
“Having Blanche, our first resident, join the Deputy Mayor in cutting the ribbon made the occasion particularly special. We would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the day such a memorable success.”
Sherwell Manor is now holding several upcoming events for community members, including a Cheese and Wine evening on 13th August from 6pm-8pm, where all are welcome to celebrate great flavours and good company.
