Residents and team members at Somer Valley House care home in Midsomer Norton enjoyed a taste of the tropics recently as the home hosted a Hawaiian Day.
The home’s Garden Room was transformed into a colourful tiki bar, while the gardens became a little slice of Hawaiian paradise. Residents and team members fully embraced the theme, dressing in Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, leis, and tropical accessories.
The kitchen team outdid themselves with an impressive selection of refreshments, including non-alcoholic Piña Coladas, raspberry lemonade, and the obligatory Pimm’s, overflowing with fresh fruit.
The celebrations continued outdoors with an alfresco BBQ feast featuring kebabs, juicy burgers, fluffy jacket potatoes, and a colourful selection of fresh salads and accompaniments.
Resident Blanche Farley thoroughly enjoyed the event and said:
“The Hawaiian afternoon was brilliant. The whole atmosphere was so much fun, and we all enjoyed dressing up and of course drinking the Pimm’s, which tasted much better as it was served in a pineapple and coconut cup.”
Fellow resident, Alexander Kirk-Wilson, added, “It was magical, and I felt like I had been transported 17,000 miles away to Hawaii!
“My wife and dog came to visit and enjoyed the afternoon with everyone together like a good old-fashioned party. There was something for everyone. You can’t beat an BBQ with friends to really get that summer feeling.”
Rhona Sievewright, General Manager at Somer Valley House, said, “Our Hawaiian Day was a fantastic opportunity for residents, relatives, and team members to come together and officially kick of summer!
“The effort everyone put into the costumes, decorations, and activities helped create a truly memorable day. Seeing so many smiles and hearing residents talk about how much they enjoyed the event made it all worthwhile.”
