Yeovil Care Home Donates School Supplies to Children Around the World

20 October 2026 Potter House

Potter House care home in Yeovil is supporting local charity, School in a Bag, who provide school bags packed with supplies to children in poverty around the world.

After residents at Potter House decided that they would like to support more charities, the team in the home contacted School in a Bag to find out how they could offer a hand.

Speaking to Sue Fisher, the Fundraising Manager at School in a Bag, residents were invited to pack some school bags themselves to be sent to a country in need.

One resident who was keen to get involved was 93-year-old Nellie Porter, who said, “It was wonderful to help children who don’t have much.

“This is such an important charity, and seeing the bags they will receive made it even more special. I’m really looking forward to seeing my bag go to school with a child.”

Sue Monger, the General Manager at Potter House, added, “What a fantastic project that we wholeheartedly support.

“It makes a real difference to children and families experiencing trauma and personal difficulties.

Sue Fisher commented, “At School in a Bag, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, and each bag we send provides a child facing poverty or difficult circumstances with the essential resources they need to access education.

“It was lovely to see the residents playing their part in making this happen, knowing that something they packed here will go on to make a real difference to a child somewhere in the world.”
