Bristol Care Home Celebrates Inspirational Care Assistant and Published Author

26 May 2026 Tudor House

Tudor House care home in Bristol is proud to celebrate care assistant Zoe Castle, whose remarkable personal journey and recently published book, Between Heartbeats, is inspiring residents, colleagues, and the wider community.

Zoe’s book shares her deeply personal story of the realities of living with complex congenital heart conditions. Between Heartbeats shines a light on the moments that often go unseen – hospital stays, uncertainty, major surgeries, emotional struggles, and the extraordinary strength required to keep moving forward.

Born with DiGeorge Syndrome, a genetic condition that can affect many parts of the body including the heart, immune system, and development, Zoe has faced lifelong medical challenges.

She also lives with Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare congenital heart defect made up of four abnormalities that affect blood flow through the heart and often requires open-heart surgery and lifelong cardiac care.

Despite these challenges, Zoe has dedicated herself to caring for others at Tudor House.

Speaking about her book, Zoe said, “Between Heartbeats is deeply personal to me. I wanted to share not just the medical journey, but the emotional one too; the strength behind survival, the people who stand beside us, and the reminder to never take a single heartbeat for granted.”

Amanda Hawley, the General Manager at Tudor House, added, “Zoe is an incredibly valued member of our team at Tudor House. We are all immensely proud of her for sharing such a personal and powerful story through Between Heartbeats.

“Her courage in raising awareness of DiGeorge Syndrome and congenital heart conditions is inspiring, and we feel privileged to have her as part of the Tudor House family.”

You can find out more about Zoe’s book, Between Heartbeats, at Tudor House’s Sip and Sunshine events, every Wednesday from 10:00 where all are welcome to enjoy refreshing drinks and delicious treats in the care home’s garden.
