Residents, relatives and team members at Arplemere care home in Warrington held a fundraiser for Breast Cancer UK, raising more than £640 during a special celebration.
During the event, Lifestyle Manager Jo took on the “Brave the Shave” challenge in support of those affected by breast cancer, drawing donations from across the home and local community.
Jo said: “I have not been affected directly by breast cancer, but when I had my first mammogram at 49, I remember the panic of waiting for the results. Thankfully everything was clear, but it made me think about those who aren’t so fortunate and who face an uncertain future after receiving a diagnosis.
“This year, I learned of a former colleague who, at a very young age and with a young family, was facing breast cancer and a harrowing treatment plan. It made me realise just how many ordinary lives have been turned upside down by this disease.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Week was the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and funds for further research. People battling this disease every day are the truly brave ones. In very simple words, it just felt the right thing to do.”
Laura Aspin, the General Manager at Arplemere, said: “We are incredibly proud of Jo for taking on this challenge and grateful to everyone who supported our Wear It Pink event. Raising over £640 is a fantastic achievement, and it reflects the generosity and community spirit that makes Arplemere such a special place.”
