Care Home in Halling Uncovers Hidden Memories Through New Scrap Book Project

3 October 2026 Lake View Lodge

Residents and relatives at Lake View Lodge care home in Halling are discovering hidden family histories thanks to a new partnership with celebrant Leigh George, founder of Memory Scrap Books.

The initiative brings residents and their loved ones together every other Tuesday to create personalised Memory Scrap Books, capturing real-life stories, photographs and memories from years gone by.

Together, families explore questions about their loved one’s life, including childhood memories, friendships, careers, holidays and significant life events, creating a lasting keepsake for future generations.

The sessions have already proven hugely popular, with several residents and their relatives taking part. Families say they have discovered fascinating stories they had never heard before and are enjoying preserving these memories for their children and grandchildren.

Leigh George, Founder of Memory Scrap Books, said:

“I started to do memory scrap book sessions with care homes was because when speaking with a family about their loved one and their life, they didn’t know very much, particularly the earlier years. Families no longer have the time to gather regularly and share stories about life in years gone by.

“The residents and their families are really engaging in the activity. It’s wonderful to hear how they hadn’t heard the stories that their mum is telling them before.

“The sessions are bringing people closer together, getting them talking about years gone by and reminiscing about all aspects of life, from friends and relatives to jobs they’ve had and places they’ve been to.”

Catherine Singh, the General Manager at Lake View Lodge added, “One of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been seeing residents and their loved ones discover new things about each other.

“Every resident has a unique story to tell, and understanding those stories is a vital part of providing truly person-led care, and we’re delighted to be working with Leigh on such a special initiative.”
