Maris View care home in Eastbourne welcomed children from The Haven Church of England Methodist Primary School to help bury a time capsule.
The children played an important role in creating the capsule, contributing a variety of items chosen by each class to represent life in 2026.
These included a newspaper, fidget toys, a dumpling squishy, coins, football stickers, a loom band, school photographs, and information about events taking place at the school and across the UK this year.
92-year-old Maris View resident Jean Harris said, “It was a very enjoyable time to see the school children and it’s a lovely idea of burying a time capsule for whoever digs it up in the years to come. It was lovely the children came to Maris View and a great way to bring generations together”.
The event highlighted the importance of connecting well across generations, bringing residents and young visitors together to create lasting memories for the future.
To keep cool during the warm weather, everyone enjoyed tasty treats and ice lollies before heading to Maris View’s cinema room, which proved a huge hit with the children.
May Powell, General Manager at Maris View, said:
“Burying the time capsule with the children from The Haven Church of England Methodist Primary School is more than simply preserving memories, it’s about celebrating the friendships we’re building across generations and leaving a legacy for those who come after us.”
Hannah Gibson, Assistant Headteacher at The Haven Church of England Methodist Primary School, added: “The children came away buzzing and really enjoyed meeting all the staff, some residents briefly and the ducklings!”
