Residents and team members at Collington Park Lodge care home in Bexhill have been celebrating a very special occasion after two much-loved colleagues, Lisa and Jason, recently married.
In the lead up to the big day, residents were determined that bride-to-be Lisa should enjoy a memorable hen party of her own. Seeing staff as an important part of their extended community, residents took charge of planning the celebration, drawing on their own experiences and wedding traditions.
As preparations got underway, residents shared stories about their own hen parties and wedding celebrations, discussing the different customs and activities they had enjoyed over the years.
One of the highlights of the event came courtesy of resident Mary, who suggested dressing Lisa in a wedding dress made entirely from toilet roll.
Adding a personal touch to the festivities, residents completed “Do and Don’t” cards for Lisa, offering a mixture of heartfelt advice, well wishes and humorous suggestions for married life.
As the wedding day approached, Lisa returned to the home to give residents a special preview of her real wedding dress. Resident Celia Colling (78) said: “I was so happy to see Lisa in her wedding dress because she looked so happy as a bride.”
Following their wedding, Lisa and Jason returned to Collington Park Lodge to share their joy with both residents and colleagues, marking another special moment in a story that has unfolded since the care home first opened.
Lisa said: “Mine and Jason’s wedding day meant the absolute world to us and sharing it with the staff and residents was great, as we met on the first day that Collington Park Lodge opened.
“The residents have been so invested in our wedding since day one; it would have been an insult not to come and see them. We are one big family.”
