Residents at Fairwood Fields care home in Pontefract enjoyed a day at the races recently after two residents revealed their passion for the sport.
When 97-year-old Joan Marshall and 93-year-old Ellen Moxon were offered the chance to attend OAP Free Day at Pontefract Race Course, they were ecstatic.
Joan, Ellen, and four other residents from Fairwood Fields spent the day in the sunshine watching the horses and placing their own wagers. Joan said,
“I love going to the races, I used to always go with my daughter. It was the best laugh I’ve had.”
Lynn Robinson, then General Manager at Fairwood Fields, added, “It’s so important for our residents to stay connected to the things they love, and days like this really bring that to life.
“We’re lucky to have such a vibrant community like Pontefract where our residents have so many opportunities on the doorstep.”
Residents at Fairwood Fields are now looking forward to their trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park on 6th May.
You can find out more about resident outings during Fairwood Fields’ Neighbourhood Natter coffee morning every Wednesday from 10:00, where all are welcome to enjoy a hot drink and homemade treats with the residents.
