A Classic Way to Stay in Touch: Postcard Station Comes to Middleshaw Hills

19 February 2026 Middleshaw Hills

Middleshaw Hills care home in Clitheroe has introduced a new postcard station designed to help residents stay in touch with family and friends in a traditional, personal way.

The initiative began during a residents’ meeting when Michael Haworth suggested creating bespoke Middleshaw Hills postcards that residents could send to loved ones.

The idea carries special significance for Michael, who worked as a stamp dealer in the 1960s and previously ran his own business selling stamps from around the world.

The team at Middleshaw Hills welcomed the idea and brought it to life by creating personalised postcards and installing a dedicated post box within the home. Michael said,

“I’ve enjoy sending and receiving postcards because I’ve always been interested in stamps, and now when I send a postcard to my family and friends who live further away, they can see pictures of where I am and write back.”

Charlotte Pardon, the General Manager at Middleshaw Hills, added, “Person-centred care is at the heart of our home, so if there is anything our residents want to do, we will always do everything we can to make it a reality.

“Our new postcard station is already very popular with our residents and visitors – who knows how far our Middleshaw Hills postcards will travel?”

You can find out more about community events at Middleshaw Hills during the home’s weekly Friendship Fridays event, where all are welcome from 2:00pm until 4:00pm to enjoy hot drinks and homemade cake with the residents.
