Bradshaw Lodge care home and operator Crystal Care Collection are teaming up with Age UK West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and Chichester District Foodbank for a “Cook and Connect” project this spring.
The free sessions will run at Chichester District Food Bank on 16, 23 and 30 April and 7 May, from 11am to 1pm, bringing local people together to cook, share a meal and build social connections.
Keely Storey, Participation Manager at Chichester District Foodbank said: “Every day, we see how the rising cost of essentials is affecting people locally, and we’re so grateful to Age UK and Bradshaw Lodge for partnering with us to bring Cook and Connect to our community. Having professional chefs on board is such a bonus and we know that the sessions are going to be very well received”.
The four-week course will help participants learn how to batch cook, create healthy meals from scratch and make the most of one‑pot recipes on a budget, using ingredients supplied by Chichester District Foodbank.
Head Chef Gulcin Sinar at Bradshaw Lodge and Regional Chef Catalin Tudose have volunteered time and expertise to support the project.
Head Chef Gulcin said, “Food is about so much more than what is on the plate, it is about comfort and community. We are proud to support Cook and Connect and to stand alongside Age UK and Chichester District Foodbank in responding to the very real pressures local people are facing when it comes to the cost of living.”
